Wine Estate Graf von Kanitz

WINES OF CHARACTER...

Earliest references to this wine estate date back to the 13th century. Initially it belonged for a number of centuries to the Freiherrn von Stein family. The last name bearer, the Prussian Minister and reformer, inherited the estate to the Dukes of Kanitz. The wine estate Graf von Kanitz owns unique steep sloped vineyards along the Rhine.

Slate and quartzite soils are excellent heat reservoirs and render the wines their distinct character. The estate ranks among the “100 Top Wine Estates of Germany” listing and is a member of the VDP (Association of the German Wine Estates). Since 1968 all work is done organically and in 1994 the estate was certified with the ECOVIN label.

On 14 hectares, mainly Riesling is produced. To complete the range, Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer are cultivated. Our Gewürztraminer shows excellent elegance and finesse; the result of meagre slate soil it grows on.
