TOP WINES ON LOAN FROM NATURE
The wine estate J.B. Becker was founded in1893. Today, it is run by grandson Hans-Josef Becker and his sister Maria. 60-70.000 bottles of mainly Riesling and Pinot Noir are produced. The siblings are true individualists, they regard their vineyards as a “loan from nature”.
Cultivation is thus in accordance with nature. “Wine will help itself” is Hans-Josef Becker´s motto and shows his absolute trust in nature. Riesling is gently pressed after 12 hours maceration and fermented spontaneously – the process is controlled as little as possible. His Rieslings and Pinots are not treated or filtered in any way. The wines are left on the lees in the vat for 9 months and are extremely long-lasting.
Bottling takes place just before the next harvest. Some of the best Pinot Noirs of Germany are made by J.B. Becker. After fermentation, they remain in the vat for a further two years. Characters like Hans-Josef Becker are probably quite unique in Germany´s winemaker scene and will luckily remain an insider tip.
